For Malaysians Only: Win a spot in a 10-week writing course with Sharon Bakar!

So I’ve had a big year. I got an agent, I sold a book. A pretty good year, as years go. And none of it would have been possible without all the people who gave me a leg-up along the way.

It’s time to pay it forward. I’ve got a birthday coming up, but I’ve decided I’d like to give you a present instead.

If you’re a Malaysian writer, this is your chance to win a spot in one of Sharon Bakar’s well-known writing courses! There will be only ONE winner, and the winner can choose between ONE of the TWO courses outlined below:

i) Finding the Flow (Creative Writing Course for Beginners)
Have you always wanted to write, but not known where and how to get started? Or are you someone who has begun to write but still lacks confidence and perpetually scrambles for ideas for what to write about? If the answer to either question is ‘yes,’ this course is for you. Finding the Flow will enable you to unlock your creativity, diminish the critical voice in your head, and produce new writing that is fresh and vibrant. You will also discover that writing is an important tool for personal growth. This course is recommended for those who would like to start writing fiction and creative non-fiction, but may also be helpful for established writers who feel they need fresh inspiration and new approaches.

Time commitment: 2 hours x 10 weeks, running over Saturday afternoons*
Begins: 5th May 2018
Location: Language Works, Sri Hartamas

* Dates may not be consecutive due to other commitments and public holidays — a schedule will be provided.

ii) Who Are You? Somebody!
Just who are you really? This is a ten-week second-level creative writing course for more experienced writers. The focus is on personal writing – about your life experiences, your family and influences, and the things that make you uniquely you. The emphasis is on writing honestly. The course will include readings and examples from a variety of authors and poets, and the first part of the course will involve generating raw material which will be closely workshopped in the final three weeks. You may choose to work on fiction, poetry, memoir or essays.
